This page is intended to provide you with answers to some of our most commonly-asked questions, but your best resource is your on-site management team. Please reach out to your community rental office directly for details about The JB Brown Fund and how it might work for you. 

Academic Scholarships

We open two scholarship rounds each year, one in Spring, and another in Fall.

Once the scholarship application period opens, you can get an application from the rental office at your community.

To apply, you will need to complete 5-6 short autobiographical essay questions, focused on what you plan to study, how you plan to manage challenges while you complete your degree, and what you plan to do when you graduate. Additionally, our application process requires the following:

  • Proof that you are a resident in good standing. This will be verified as part of application review.
  • Proof of acceptance at a recognized educational institution.
  • Your most recent school transcripts.
  • A completed annual budget showing all educational costs, and any other income sources to cover them.
  • A course schedule. If not available at time of application, this must be provided before a scholarship will be disbursed.
  • For first-time applicants, two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, employer, clergy, youth group leader; etc.

 

Award amounts are based on a combination of:

  • Financial need
  • The type of educational institution
  • Whether you will attend full- or part-time

We are currently accepting applications for our Fall 2024 scholarship round. Applications must be submitted by May 24, 2024 to be considered.

Trade School Scholarships

Trade school scholarship applications are accepted year-round.

Contact your community rental office for an application.

A trade school is an educational program that certifies you to perform a specific task.Many trade schools offer training on skills related to construction, like Plumbing, Electrical, or HVAC. There are also trade school programs for many healthcare professions, like Practical Nursing and Dental Hygiene.

If you’re not sure whether a program qualifies, ask us, we’re happy to assist!

  • Proof that you are a resident in good standing. This will be verified as part of application review.
  • Proof of acceptance in an accredited program.

Award amounts are determined based on need. Please contact us for details about your specific situation.

Youth Sports Grants

We accept applications for youth sports grants at any time.

We’ve provided grants for sports ranging from basketball to dance and everything in between.

As of 2022, recipients are eligible for up a grant of up to $500.

Client Assistance

Every situation is unique. If you are in need, please contact your rental office, or send us a message, so we can refer you to our social services partner. They will discuss your specific situation with you to determine whether the JB Brown Fund is a good fit.

As of 2022, recipients are eligible for one-time grant of up to $400.

Client assistance is currently only available at communities that also offer LifeSTEPS services.
